Can a schnauzer be merle? Miniature schnauzer puppies for sale akc registered

The breeders specifically created the initial cross to introduce the merle color into the Miniature Schnauzer gene pool. Subsequently, they only used these Schnauzer mixes and purebred Schnauzers for breeding subsequent generations.

How do schnauzer become merle?

The merle pattern is produced when a dog has a single copy of the M< allele,  all merle dogs have the genotype Mm — meaning they have one allele for merle and one allele for non-merle. All non-merles are mm.

What makes a schnauzer a merle? miniature schnauzer puppies for sale akc registered

The merle coat color/pattern in dogs is inherited dominantly. This means breeders only need one copy of an M allele for a dog to display some variation of the merle coat color/pattern.

Why are merle schnauzer more expensive?

Merle dog breeds are more expensive for a number of reasons. For one, genetic testing is needed in every merle breeding to prevent a double-merle litter. Secondly, breeders may charge pet owners a premium for such an in-demand coat color.
Do merle Schnauzers have health issues?
The quick answer is that a well-bred merle dog with one copy of the merle gene will be as healthy as a solid-colored dog. If a dog is a so-called “double merle” however, he is likely to suffer from vision, hearing and skin problems.
What colors are merle miniature schnauzers?
Firstly, Parti Merles are identical to Blue, Black & Silver, Liver, Liver & Tan, Liver Pepper, Salt & Pepper, Platinum silver, and Wheaten Merles. However, they have distinctive patches/spots of the merle marking on their body. In other words, Merle Parti can be a combination of any of the above colors with White that crosses over the top line of the dog.
Can merle dogs have babies?
It doesn’t matter what color merle or what breed they are. The breeders breed two merle dogs together. Each puppy in the litter then has a 25% chance of being born as a double merle. A double merle inherits the merle gene twice.
